LONG TITLE
General Description:
This bill amends provisions relating to state pay plans for peace officers.
Highlighted Provisions:
This bill:
▸ defines "peace officer"; and
▸ requires the executive director of the Department of Human Resource Management
to ensure that the state pay plans for peace officers include certain information about
salary range differences, qualifications, training, performance evaluation, and
promotion.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
Section 1. Section 
67-19-12.6
 is enacted to read:
 67-19-12.6.
State pay plans for peace officers.
(1) As used in this section, "peace officer" means:
(a) a correctional officer as defined in Section 
53-13-104
;
(b) a law enforcement officer as defined in Section 
53-13-103
; or
(c) a special function officer as defined in Section 
53-13-105
.
(2) In addition to the requirements of Section 
67-19-12
, the executive director shall
ensure that each state pay plan for peace officers:
(a) distinguishes the salary range for each peace officer classification;
(b) includes for each peace officer classification:
(i) the minimum physical and educational qualifications; and
(ii) any training requirements; and
(c) provides standards for:
(i) performance evaluation; and
(ii) promotion.
